9th Rifle Brigade were part of 42 Brigade, 14th Division that arrived in France in May, 1915, and in June and July 1915 they were in the Railway Wood sector of the Ypres salient. On 15th July, 1915 they were in support in the GHQ lines, working on concealing the dug-outs there when their activities were spotted by German observation planes. This resulted in these working parties being shelled and a number of casualties being sustained. One of these was Frederick Capel. |
